Portland Street Photography
August 14th, 2015 - Portland, OR
Street photography isn't my "thing." It's actually something I've never even attempted in the few years I've been shooting, it's never even really crossed my mind. So, spurred on by a "challenge" posted to a photography group on Facebook, I got up nice and early, packed a bag full of lenses and headed out for the streets.
There's something very odd about photographing people going about their normal lives. I think the first thought I had was "what if this person doesn't want to be photographed?" My second thought was "Oh well..." Nobody seemed to care though. A few even smiled after realizing I took their photo. Most never knew.
Over all it was a fun and educational experiment, something I will certainly have to go back out and try again - being more assertive for sure.
There are two "projects" that this exercise has lead me towards: First a random portrait project asking random people around Portland for their portrait; the second being a more extensive street project. I'll curate a collection and offer prints from my "prints" galleries.
Anyways, take a look at a few photos below and let me know what you think!
I'll be posting a few to Facebook and Instagram over the next few weeks:
